Lake Okeechobee is the heart of Florida's water system. When managers release too much water to prevent flooding, it carries agricultural pollution into the Indian River Lagoon — killing seagrass, starving manatees, and choking one of the most biodiverse estuaries in North America. The Everglades restoration — the largest in American history — is designed to fix exactly this, sending that water south where it belongs.
