The 15-Mile Reach on the Colorado River is critical habitat for four endangered fish found nowhere else on earth. It exists because farmers upstream agreed to leave water in the river — a rare deal between agriculture and ecology that almost didn't happen. It did happen, and it's working.
The morning kicks off with a discussion on one of the West's hardest water questions: how do you balance the needs of farmers, cities, recreation, and endangered fish on the same river?
Then the bikes come out. Pappy's rolling through orchards, vineyards, and farmers' markets - the living proof of what water makes possible out here.
